Ellen Perricone MSW, LSW
Honoring the Journey Therapeutic Services
My name is Ellen Perricone. I have been a Christian since 1974.
My husband and I have been attending Sloan’s Lake Community Church
since 1992. We have been married 28 years and have two children.
While at SLCC I have served in the capacity as a member of the Board
of Elders (2 terms); a Sunday school teacher for children; co-led
several series on parenting using Love and Logic and in a variety of
other areas.
I got my Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from the
University of Nebraska when I was a young woman. I went back to get
my Masters of Social Work from the University of Denver as a middle
aged woman. So I got a ‘life education’ between the two degrees. I
graduated from DU in 2000.
I worked with the County of Denver in home-based family
reunification programs in several organizations as a
caseworker/family therapist/referral source for about 2 years prior
to beginning work as a social worker for The Denver Hospice
(formally Hospice of Metro Denver.)
At the Denver Hospice I worked as a home-based social worker with an
interdisciplinary team consisting of nurses, chaplains, medical
director, certified nursing assistants, nutritionalist, and
volunteers as we supported patients and families as they faced the
end of life. I served in that capacity for four years and since 2005
have worked as a grief counselor in the Denver Hospice Grief Center.
In 2003 while continuing to working part time for these agencies, I
opened Honoring the Journey Therapeutic Services, a private
psychotherapy practice. In 2006, the SLCC Board of Elders created
the Sloan’s Lake Christian Counseling Center as a way of beginning
to think about how to not only serve the congregants of SLCC in
times of emotional need, but also as a way to touch our community.
To that end, I serve both as the director of the counseling center
and as a private practitioner out of the office located in the
church. The counseling center and the private psychotherapy practice
function separately but with me as the common element.
My goal is to offer a Christian perspective in psychotherapy and to
respond to church and community issues with classes, lectures,
workshops and support groups. The SLCC Christian Counseling Center
strives to offer the classes, etc. at a free or reduced fee and
Honoring the Journey Therapeutic Services offers a sliding scale.
Please feel free to call the church office for more information. It
is a blessing to serve in this capacity to the Christian community
and the community at large.
